Circle Hanoi's largest lake through millennium-old temples
West Lake — Hanoi's largest inner-city lake — was once a bend of the Red River, carrying sediments of myth: the Golden Buffalo, the Nine-Tailed Fox, Lạc Long Quân slaying demons. Around its shores stand temples, pagodas, and shrines layered across 15 centuries. This 4.2 km circuit, with six stops, takes you from Hanoi's oldest pagoda on the southern peninsula, past the temple of the Northern Guardian Spirit, to the city's most sacred Mother-Goddess shrine, and back through the peach-flower village of Nhật Tân. An afternoon at West Lake is never just a stroll — it's a small pilgrimage.
